IRVINE, Calif. - The men's volleyball team wrapped up its spring break SoCal road trip tonight as they fell against No. 9 in the nation, Westcliff University, in straight sets.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 10-1 lead and never looked back as they took the first set convincingly 25-13 to take the early match lead.
Back-to-back blocks by
Jacob Shelton and
Dehryn Brown, followed by an ace by Chase Silveria, pulled the Red Hawks within one. However, the Warriors went on a 5-2 run to take the 15-11 lead.
Simpson pulled within three on a kill by Brown, but the Warriors closed out the second set 25-17 victory on a 6-1 run.
The Red Hawks did not go quietly as they trailed 17-11 before outscoring Westcliff 7-2 to pull within one as
Jacob Shelton posted three blocks while Brown posted two kills.
The third set went beyond the standard 25 points as a kill by Silveira tied the game at 24. But the Warriors prevailed as they scored the next two points to take the 26-24 third set victory to complete the straight set win.
Brown posted a team-high 10 kills while Shelton notched seven total blocks to go along with three kills.
Simpson looks to be back in action next Saturday at 8:30 pm against Pacific Union College in the James M. Grant Center.
