Red Hawks win fifth straight conference game

ANGWIN, Calif. - The men's basketball team continues to roll in conference play as they won their fifth straight conference game tonight against PUC 77-67.

The Pioneers jumped on the scoreboard first on their first offensive possession before the Red Hawks took the 7-4 lead on a tough jump shot by Timothy Parker as he converted on the and-one free throw.

Simpson never relinquished the lead as the Pioneers pulled within two points midway through the first half, 20-18.

But the Red Hawks exploded for a 19-5 run to grow their largest lead of the first half to 16 points as they held the 39-23 lead with Parker accounting for 10 points.

Dylan Harms pulled down a key offensive board as the clock ran down in the first half, as he converted on a last-second layup to give Simpson the 43-27 lead going into the half.

A layup by Michael Wood with just over 13 minutes left in the second half extended Simpson's largest lead of the game to 22 points, 59-37.

The Pioneers' last gasp came with four minutes left in the game as they pulled within seven points, but the Red Hawks prevailed as they scored six straight points to take the 77-67 victory.

Parker led the Simpson offense with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Nian Allen followed close behind with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Harms rounded out the double-digit performances with 18 points and five rebounds while shooting 7-11 from the floor.
