Simpson falls to The Masters to conclude SoCal road trip

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Simpson baseball team dropped the doubleheader against The Master's University yesterday to conclude play in SoCal, 9-3 and 3-2.

Simpson drew first blood in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Cayden Lee. But the Mustangs avoided further damage as left fielder Ty Beck cut down Lee at the plate.

Starter Daniel Aceto surrendered his first runs of the game after 5.0 shutout innings as a Simpson error helped spark a Mustangs rally as they plated two runs to take the 2-1 lead.

The Master's busted it open in the bottom of the seventh inning as they plated seven runs on six hits while sending 13 batters to the plate.

Back-to-back singles by Tyler Haruta and Mario Catalan came around to score on an RBI single by Owen Hayes and a sacrifice fly by Bo Valladao in Simpson's last gasp.

A one-two-three ninth sealed the first game victory for The Masters as they took the 9-3 game one victory.

Simpson starter Daniel Aceto took the loss as he fired 5.2 innings of two-run ball while allowing just one earned run and scattering seven hits.

Catalan and the former Mustang Owen Hayes led the Simpson bats with two-hit performances as they combined for two RBIs.

Game 2:
A low-scoring battle saw the Red Hawks jump on the scoreboard first as a leadoff walk to Adem Munoz to begin the game came around to score on an RBI double by Brandon Zanni

The Red Hawks added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Nui Sato

Starter, Bo Vallado held total command on the mound as he fired five shutout innings before the Mustangs rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. The Mustangs scored the go-ahead and what would be the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Taguiam.

A leadoff walk to Jackson Berry put the tying run aboard for Simpson before the Mustangs induced a 6-3 double play and a harmless flyout to end the game.

The Red Hawks are back in action this week as they travel to Arizona to take on Nelson University for a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 pm.
