REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks closed out their round robin play today in a triple header against Park, Westcliff, and #10 Oregon Tech.
Game 1:Â
Simpson fell in a 12-inning thriller in the first game of the day that lasted more than three hours as both teams combined for five pitchers who hurled more than 400 pitches.Â
The Red Hawks and Bucs exchanged three runs apiece in the first inning as the Red Hawks benefited from one crucial error that plated two runs.Â
The Bucs took the 5-3 lead on a pair of RBI singles by Arianna Fjeldsted and Noelle Gumm as Simpson's Oliva Bicondova threw out Fjeldsted at the plate to end the threat.Â
An RBI bases-loaded walk to
Nayzeth Gonzalez and
Jessica Heck tied the game at five before
Nicolena Holen gave the Red Hawks its first lead of the day on a solo-shot to left center field.Â
But the Bucs answered in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Rebekka Nance. The game remained tied as neither team could cash in its ghost-runner over the next two innings.Â
Park exploded for a four-run top of the tenth inning as they gained the lead on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch before benefiting from a Red Hawks error to take the commanding 10-6 lead.Â
Simpson answered with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning as a two-out RBI single by Bicondova tied the game at 10.Â
The Bucs exchanged runs in the 11th and pushed for a 12th as they plated two runs that proved to be the difference as they held onto the 13-12, 12-inning thriller.Â
Bicondova led the Simpson bats in game one with three hits and three RBIs, while Holen followed behind with a two-hit performance that included her first long-ball of the year.Â
Game 2:Â
Simpson dropped its second game of the day against Westcliff 8-1.Â
The Warriors scored a pair of runs in the first and third innings as they took a 4-0 lead behind starting pitcher Madison Mendez.Â
A lead-off double by
Emily Placencia to begin the fourth inning came around to score on an RBI triple into the right field corner by
Alyssa Blanco.Â
Westcliff opened the game up in the fifth inning as they plated four runs on two hits they closed out the 8-1 victory.Â
Game 3:Â
The story of unearned runs plagued the Red Hawks in the final game of the round robin tournament as they fell 9-2 against Oregon Tech.Â
The Owls jumped out to the early 4-0 lead on RBI singles by Addison Kachnik and Brooklyn Loose while Puakea Milbourne stroked a two-run double in the second inning.Â
Nayzeth Gonzalez split the left center alley as she plated the first runs of the game for the Red Hawks with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning.Â
However, the Owls took advantage of five Red Hawk errors as they plated five unearned runs over the final four innings of play to take the 9-2 victory.Â
OIT starter, Alli Paker, earned the complete game victory as she scattered six hits while striking out 10 batters.Â
Gonzalez and Bicondova led the Simpson bats with two-hit performances, while Gonzalez drove in the two runs of the game for Simpson.Â
Simpson enters a bye week as conference play begins, as they eye its conference home-opener against OIT on March 6th at 1 pm.Â
