Brayden Santa and alum Quinn Hawkinson highlight the first win of the year at Phils Propeller Tournament

LAKE SHASTA, Calif. - A beautiful day on the lake as the Red Hawks competed in the first Phil's Propeller Tournament of the year. Joshua Katherman states, "It felt great to get back out on the local lake! Shasta has been a blast to fish since returning to school, and I've been looking forward to the first Phil's tournament of the season here."

Katherman explains his early outlook and partnership with Simpson alum, James Hawkinson; "I teamed up with good buddy and Simpson alum James Hawkinson, better known as Quinn. We both had some great days of prefishing leading into the event. We felt confident in the fish we had located and knew we had a solid opportunity to put together a good bag".

"Quinn got us off to a great start by putting our biggest fish in the boat early on a big swimbait, giving us a solid foundation to work with throughout the day. From there, we focused on grinding it out, catching numbers of fish, and upgrading our weight by worming and utilizing forward-facing sonar".

"We were able to put together a bag right around 15 pounds, securing the win at the first Phil's tournament of the season on Shasta!"

"Big shoutout to Quinn for teaming up and putting together a great day on the water. We're looking forward to the rest of the season and hope to keep the momentum rolling as we make a run at AOY and more top finishes throughout the Phil's tournaments!"
