PHOENIX, Ariz. - The women's basketball team edged Northern New Mexico this afternoon, 67-62, to remain undefeated in conference play. 

The Eagles scored the first five points of the game before the Red Hawks tied the game on a three-pointer by Moriah Bowles and a jump shot by Destiny Nichols before taking the one-point advantage on a three-pointer by Ann Marshall. 

But the rest of the first quarter belonged to the Eagles as they went on a 17-2 run to take the 24-10 lead going into the second quarter. 

However, the Red Hawks flipped the script with a dominant second quarter as they outscored Northern New Mexico 21-5 to take the 31-29 lead into halftime. 

Bowles and Nichols led the second quarter attack with six points each, while Marshall added four points. 

The Eagles tied the game on their first possession of the second half before a three-pointer by Bowles and back-to-back free throws by Marshall helped Simpson regain the 36-31 lead. 

The Red Hawks extended their lead to as much as 10 points late in the third quarter on a layup by Nichols. 

Simpson held off the Eagles' fourth-quarter comeback as they held onto the 67-62 road victory. 

Marshall and Bowles led the team with 19 points as Bowles just missed a double-double, as she notched nine rebounds. 

Nichols followed close behind with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists. 

With the win, Simpson remains undefeated in conference play as it holds a 1.0 game lead over Cal Maritime for the top spot. 

Simpson looks to hit the road this week as they take on UC Santa Cruz on Thursday at 4 pm.
