Dylan Harms exploded for a huge game with 24 points to help propel the Red Hawks over the Pioneers to begin the New Year.
Back-to-back buckets to begin the game on a layup by Harms and a monster dunk by
Timothy Parker helped set the tone for the rest of the game.
Simpson jolted for an early 10-point, 14-4 lead as Harms paced the team with seven points.
The Pioneers pulled within three points midway through the first half before the Red Hawks responded with seven straight points, started by a momentum-changing dunk by Parker, followed by a layup and a three-pointer by
Nian Allen.
The Red Hawks began the second half with an exclamation as they extended their 11-point lead on a dunk by Allen.
The Pioneers battled as they pulled within seven points midway through the second half before the Red Hawks exploded for a 12-2 run to take the commanding 64-47 lead with Harms and Allen posting five points each.
Simpson cruised to a 78-69 victory as the Red Hawks concluded its preseason play on a high note with a New Year's Day victory to begin the 2026 fiscal year.
Harms had himself a game as he posted a team-high 24 points to go along with six rebounds while shooting 71% from the floor.
Allen and Parker played key roles as they combined for 29 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists.
Aidan Rolfs led the defense with 13 rebounds to go along with eight points.
Simpson concludes its preseason going 5-8, which included an exhibition victory over Chico State and a clash with the University of the Pacific.
The Red Hawks open conference play on the road on Thursday as they take on Stanton University at 7:45 pm at Cypress College.
