Simpson takes down PUC to extend win streak to four games

ANGWIN, Calif. - The women's volleyball squad took down Pacific Union College tonight in straight sets for the second time in three days.

A service error by the Pioneers, followed by back-to-back kills by Mariah Napoleon and Elizabeth Heath, gave Simpson the early lead.

Simpson never looked back as they took the first set convincingly, 25-8, as they mounted 7-0 runs on two separate occasions, as Napoleon had a big first set with seven kills.

A kill by Tiara Manns got Simpson on the board in the second set as Simpson jumped out to the early 11-3 lead.

Mackenzie Tataryn notched three aces, Manns and Napoleon posted two kills, and Kiersti Howell picked up a kill and a block.

The Red Hawks took advantage of Pioneer miscues as they took the second set 25-17 to take the commanding 2-0 match lead.

However, the Pioneers scored four straight points to begin the third set before a service error and a solo block by Napoleon cut the lead in half.

Simpson reeled off nine unanswered points to take the 11-6 lead as Abigail Shackelford posted three aces while Napoleon notched three kills to anchor the Red Hawks' rally.

In sight of a straight set victory, Simpson never relinquished the lead as they took the third set 25-17 for the match victory.

Napoleon had a team-high 15 kills to go along with an astounding .591 hitting percentage on the game.

At the setter spot, Brooke Sarahina and Tataryn combined for 29 assists, six aces, and 10 digs.

With the win, Simpson are winners of four straight games as they improve to a perfect 2-0 to begin conference play.

Simpson looks to be back in action this week, Friday, as they head to SoCal to take on Westcliff at 7 pm.
