Santiago's PK lifts Simpson over the Pioneers to begin conference play

REDDING, California. - The women's soccer team took on Pacific Union College Pioneers today in its 2025 conference opener to begin Cal Pac play.

The Simpson attackers actively took their shots at the Pioneers' goal all game as they outshot PUC 9-2 in the first half and 20-5 in the game.

However, both goalies prevailed as the Red Hawks, goal keeper Iris Van Dalfsen, posted her lone save of the day in the first half and preserved the clean sheet.

The Pioneers committed a crucial foul in the 37th minute to set up a penalty pick for the Red Hawks.

Nadia Santiago played hero as she drilled the game-winner to the right of the goal to give Simpson the lead on her second goal of the season.

This proved to be enough for the Red Hawks as Dalfsen and the Simpson defense suffocated the Pioneers' attackers while allowing three shots in the second half and a total of five shots in the game.

Dalfsen picked up her second win of the year in the posts as she improves her record to 2-3-0. She picked up one save on the day, on her way to her second career clean sheet.

With the goal, Santiago now leads the team with two goals on the year as she has two game-winners to her credit.

Simpson looks to hit the road this week as they continue conference play on the road at California Maritime Academy at 7 pm this Thursday.
