Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Sam Nakata

Simpson falls in the final seconds to the Eagles

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men's soccer team concluded its preseason play today against Northwest University.

The Red Hawks had an active first half as they fired six shots, with three coming inches away from giving Simpson the lead.

The near misses included an Ariel Perez-Avilez shot that hit the top crossbar and a Dylan Sides tap-in that hit the right post.

Both teams played each other tough as they each had six shots in the first half, and they held each other off the scoreboard for the first 45 minutes of play.

However, the Eagles scored the crushing goal in the waning seconds as they found the back of the net with 10 seconds left in the game.

Simpson had one more opportunity as they lined up for a free kick about 10 yards beyond the box following a Northwest foul.

But the Eagles' defense prevailed as they escaped Redding with the 1-0 victory.

Jacopo Trolese picked up four saves but took the tough loss between the posts, while Sides notched three shots with one being on goal.

With the loss, Simpson concludes its preseason going 0-6 against five Cascade and one DII opponent.

Simpson looks to be back in action September 21st at noon as they take on Pacific Union to begin Conference play.
