MESA, Ariz. - The women's volleyball team continued play against Benedictine, Mesa, tonight in its second game of the Arizona road trip.
Ben U had a huge first set as they took the match opener 25-11 to take the 1-0 match lead.
A thrilling second set saw six lead changes between the Red Hawks. Back-to-back kills by Heath and
Tiara Manns pulled Simpson within two, 20-18. However, Ben U outscored Simpson 5-2 to take the 25-20 second set victory.
Ben U jumped out to the early 4-0 lead to begin the third set before a kill by Heath got Simpson on the board.
Facing a 9-3 deficit, the Red Hawks outscored Ben U 8-2 to tie the game at 11.
Manns posted two aces, Heath notched two kills,
Brooke Sarahina picked up a kill and a block with
Kiersti Howell, while
Kare Ann Oshiro registered a kill.
However, Ben U created breathing room as they went on an 8-2 run to take the 19-13 lead. This proved to be a difference maker for Ben U as they sealed the 25-18 third set victory.
Heath had a big game as she posted a team-high nine kills to go along with a .333 hitting percentage.
Sarahina led the team with 17 assists and nine digs to go along with two kills.
Simpson looks to continue playing in Arizona as they begin play in the Ottawa tournament tomorrow, as they play Haskell Indians Nation University at 1 pm and Ottawa at 3:30 pm.
