Red Hawks fall in straight sets to the Warriors to kick off the SoCal road trip

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - The women's volleyball squad began its SoCal road trip tonight as they took on GSAC opponent, Life Pacific University.

The Warriors proved to be too much for Simpson as they took the match in straight sets with the scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 30-28.

Simpson jumped out to the early lead as they scored five straight points to begin the game on an ace by Tiara Manns and kills by Kiersti Howell, Kare Ann Oshiro, and Mariah Napoleon.

But the Warriors stunned the Red Hawks as they took the 9-6 lead on a 9-1 run and never looked back as they outscored Simpson 25-5 following the Red Hawks' fast start.

The Warriors took the early 3-0 lead in the second set before a kill by Howell put Simpson on the board.

The Red Hawks looked to rally late as they faced a seven-point deficit before going on a 6-1 run to pull within two, 18-16.

Abigail Shackelford played a vital role as she notched two kills, a block, and an ace.

However, the Warriors held off the Red Hawks' rally as they outscored Simpson 7-1 in the back end of the second set to take the 2-0 match lead.

Kills by Howell and Napoleon helped give Simpson the 3-0 lead to begin the third set, as back-to-back kills by Manns gave Simpson the 10-6 lead.

The Warriors held a 23-20 advantage before Simpson scored three unanswered points to tie the game on three straight Warrior miscues.

Simpson held a set-point advantage on three different occasions as Napoleon and Manns played key roles. However, the Warriors flipped the script and scored three straight times to end the match 30-28.

Manns posted a team-high 10 kills, Brooke Sarahina made her Red Hawk debut with a team-high 21 assists, and Brooklyn Jimenez posted a team-high 12 digs.

Kiersti Howell had a solid game as she notched seven kills to go along with a .583 hitting percentage for the game.

Simpson looks to bounce back tomorrow as they continue their road trip to the Hope International Tournament. The Red Hawks begin play against the Royals at 10 am and finish the day against Northwest University at 2 pm.
