DICKINSON, N.D. - The Simpson baseball squad took on #1 seed and #17 in the nation Bellevue in the winner's bracket game this afternoon.
The Red Hawks and Bruins held each other off the scoreboard for the first three innings before Simpson struck first on a two-run blast by
Cayden Lee in the top of the fourth inning.
Lee continues to swing a hot bat as he belted his third home run of the tournament after sending two long balls yesterday against Dakota State.
However, the two-run lead evaporated in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Bruins plated two runs with two outs to tie the game.
Simpson regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning as a one-out triple by
Dylan Leek scored on a sacrifice fly by
Mario Catalan.
But the Bruins took the 4-3 lead in the bottom half of the inning on a pinch-hit two-run blast.
The Bruins never looked back as they scored four runs over the next two innings to take the 8-3 lead.
The Red Hawks went down in order in the ninth as they could not overcome the five-run deficit as they look ahead to take on Cal Pac rival La Sierra tomorrow at 8:45 (MST) in an elimination game.
