NEVADA, Nev. - The Red Hawks baseball team took on its first NCAA Division I opponent tonight as they fell to the University of Nevada, Reno 8-0.
The Wolf Pack drew first blood on a clutch two-out two-run double down the right field line in the bottom of the third inning to take the early lead.
Simpson looked to strike some two-out magic as
Cayden Lee picked up the Red Hawk's first hit of the game on a two-strike sinking line drive into centerfield.
A walk to
Alex Tolbert followed by a single into right field by
Jaxon Hotta loaded the bases for Simpson. However, the Wolfpack reliever picked up a huge strikeout to escape the jam.
The Wolf Pack pitching staff stifled the Red Hawks offense as they held them to just three hits on the night.
UNR plated three more runs in the fourth and a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the commanding 8-0 lead.
Lee, Hotta, and
Brock Gilligan each notched singles while the Red Hawks pitching staff shared the eight-inning duties by deploying eight different arms;
Gage Hoyle,
Hyunwoo Kim,
Qorey Houston,
Gavin Hughes,
Chandler Jones,
Geremy McCollough,
Brendan Moore, and
Logan Boenker.
Simpson looks to be back in action this weekend as they begin a three-game conference series against Providence Christian on Friday.
