IRVINE, Calif. - The boys completed the three-game sweep over the Westcliff Warriors yesterday as they took both games in the twin-bill by the scores of 6-1 and 12-2.
The Warriors jumped on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning as they plated the game's first run on a sacrifice fly.
However, the Red Hawks tied the game in the fifth inning as a leadoff single by
Jaxon Hotta came around to score on an RBI single by
Brandon Zanni.
The Red Hawks' offense put up crooked numbers in the sixth and seventh innings as they plated five runs over the next two innings.
Two-straight singles by
Cayden Lee and
Alex Tolbert put runners on the corners before Hotta picked up an RBI single followed by a huge two-run single by
Aden Munoz to give Simpson the 4-1 lead.
Simpson added two more runs in the seventh inning as
Dylan Leek picked up an RBI double followed by an RBI groundout by
Dominic Folks.
This proved to be more than enough for starter
Hyunwoo Kim as he earned the win by firing 7.2 innings of one-run ball.
Andreyes Palacios, Leek, and Hotta posted two-hit performances with one RBI each.
Game 2:
The Red Hawks struck first in the top of the second inning as Palacios stole third and scored on an errant throw from the catcher to give Simpson the early lead.
Simpson plated four runs in the top of the third inning as a lead-off single by
Mario Catalan followed by a single by Lee and a hit-by-pitch to Tolbert loaded the bases for
Aden Munoz.
Munoz came through with a sacrifice fly followed by two huge two-out hits by Palacios and Zanni. Palacios notched an RBI single into center field while Zanni picked up a two-run double to cap off a four-run third inning.
The Red Hawks held the 6-2 lead late in the second game before its offense exploded for a six-run seventh inning.
Palacios and
Christian Veninga highlighted the big inning as Palacios picked up a two-run double and Veniga notched a two-run single to give Simpson the commanding 12-2 lead.
Simpson closed out the game in the seventh inning as they won in run-rule fashion.
Qorey Houston picked up the win as he tossed 7.0 innings of two-run ball while striking out three Warrior batters.
Leee and Palacios had a huge game as they each posted four-hit performances and combined for five RBIs.
With the win, Simpson now holds 0.5 a game lead over La Sierra for the top spot in the Cal Pac standings.
Simpson looks to stay hot as they hit the road on Tuesday to take on the University of Nevada, Reno at 6:05 pm.
