Simpson outlasts Providence Christian, completes the three-game sweep

REDDING, Cali. - The Red Hawks completed the three-game sweep over Providence Christian as they won the series finale 15-11.

The Sea Beggars drew first blood in the top of the second inning on a bases-loaded hit batsman to drive home the first run of the game before the Red Hawks tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.

Simpson took the lead in the bottom of the third inning as Dominic Folks ripped an RBI double into the left-center alley followed by an RBI single by Jaxon Hotta to give Simpson the 3-1 lead.

The Sea Beggars pulled within one in the top of the fourth inning as they took advantage of two Red Hawk errors.

But the Red Hawks answered back in the bottom half of the inning as they plated four runs off four hits.

A leadoff single by Aden Munoz followed by a double by Brandon Zanni put two runners in scoring position to begin the bottom of the fourth inning.

Brock Gilligan picked up an RBI groundout while Cayden Lee and Hotta notched RBI doubles to give Simpson the 7-2 lead.

The Red Hawks' exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning as they put up a seven spot as Leek, Hotta, and Lee notched RBIs and Andreyes Palacios highlighted the inning with a two-run double.

However, the Sea Beggars chipped away as they plated a run in the sixth inning and four more in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead in half, 14-7.

Hotta got one run back in the bottom of the seventh inning as he launched his first home run of the year to make it a 15-7 game.

Providence Christian did not go quietly as the first five batters in the top of the ninth inning reached base safely as a three-run blast and an RBI groundout pulled the Sea Beggars within four.

Reliever, Logan Boenker secured the win for the Red Hawks as he induced a groundout and a game-ending double play.

Left Fielder, Cole Ottersberg started the double play as he picked up the outfield assist on a would-be base runner trying to tag up from third base as he threw a perfect strike to the plate.

Reigning Cal Pac Pitcher of the Week Hyunwoo Kim picked up the win as he tossed 5.0 innings of three-run ball while striking out six Sea Beggars.

Palacios led the Simpson bats with a four-hit game while Hott followed close behind with a three-hit four RBI performance.

The Red Hawks have a bye this week as they are back in action on April 24th as they host La Sierra in its final series of the regular season.

Left fielder, Cole Otterberg made a spectacular throw to the plate to cut down the Sea Beggar base runner to end the game.
