Simpson drops the series against OIT

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson baseball team continued play today as they concluded its four-game series with Oregon Tech in a doubleheader today.

The Owls struck first in the top of the first inning as they plated two runs before starter Chandler Jones stranded the bases loaded with a strikeout.

But the Red Hawks answered back in the bottom half of the inning as three straight one-out walks to Jaxon Hotta, Cayden Lee, and Alex Tolbert loaded the bases for Connor Christie

Christie came through with a two-strike single into centerfield to plate courtesy runner Isaiah Alcala

Back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Andreyes Palacios and Dominic Folks pushed across the third and fourth runs of the game.

The Red Hawks and Owls both plated a run in the second inning as Tolbert drove home Alcala to extend Simpson's 5-3 lead.

Oregon Tech pushed across three runs in the third inning as Jones handed the ball to reliever Brendan Moore

Moore had an outstanding appearance out of the bullpen as he fired four straight scoreless innings.

Simpson tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Dylan Leek came through with a clutch two-out single into right field to score Brayden Swenson

Moore surrendered his first run of the game in the eighth inning as Oregon Tech took the 7-6 lead on a ground ball through the drawn-in infield.

However, the Red Hawks could not push across the tying run as they managed one base runner in the final two innings to drop the first game of the twin-bill 7-6.

Moore took the tough loss as he fired 6.1 innings of one-run baseball as he struck out three OIT batters.

Game 2:

Simpson looked to salvage the final game of the series behind starter Qorey Houston

However, the Owls had other plans as they scored in the first three innings to take the 5-0 lead as Simpson looked to get its first base runner.

A pinch-hit double to begin the fourth inning by Isaiah Alcala put the Red Hawks in business.

Cayden Lee drove home Alcala as he ripped an RBI single to get Simpson on the board.

The Owls plated one more run in the sixth as they quieted the Simpson bats and took game four 6-1.

Alcala had himself a game as he came in to take over center field duties in the fourth inning and notched three hits in three trips to the plate including a double.

Simpson looks to begin a four-game series against the reigning 2024 NAIA National champions, Hope International on Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 11 am.
