Simpson Wrestles at the Spokane Open

Simpson Wrestlers picked up big wins at the Spokane Open this past weekend as they took part in its largest tournament of the season so far.

Tomas Jacobo set the pace by winning his first four matches before dropping a tight match in the finals to take 2nd place.

Jay Everhart started with three straight wins before his first loss, then fought back in the consolation semi-finals to get into the 3rd place match. Everhart had a back-and-forth match but came up short. His record for the day was 4-2 for a 4th place finish.

Christopher Guizar was back in form and wrestled all weekend strongly. His first match was against nationally ranked Blake Runion, where he lost. Guizar then came back with four straight wins, finishing the day with a 4-1 record.

Ben Mitchell wrestled unattached as this was an open tournament. Mitchell started with five straight pins to make it to the finals, where he lost to nationally ranked Jalen Vladic, taking 2nd place.

Other wrestlers who had strong showings:

William Schwertscarf 3-2

Carlos Martinez 2-2

Andres Garcia 2-2

Geovanni Bertolino 2-2

Our Simpson Wrestlers are back in action on December 4th at the Enterprise High School gymnasium. The Red Hawks will wrestle against Corban University at 4 pm, Southern Oregon at 5:30 pm, and finish the evening against San Francisco State University at 7 pm.
