REDDING, Calif. - Simpson completed its two-game homestand with a resounding 70-50 win over the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers.
The Red Hawks came out strong in the first quarter, with two early three-pointers from
Anna Marshall stretching Simpson's lead early.
An emphatic near-half-court buzzer beater by
Destiny Nichols put Simpson up 21-10 after the first quarter. The Keelhaulers made just two of their 16 shots during the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Keelhaulers were able to calm down Simpson's offense, but were still outscored 14-11 as Simpson led 35-21 at halftime.
The Red Hawks kept the lead throughout the third quarter, and
Cerina Nguyen caught fire as she led the team with eight points while shooting a perfect3-3 from the floor and 2-2 from the line. Simpson led by as much as 18 heading into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter was a mere formality as Simpson cleared their bench for the final minutes, ultimately winning the game 70-50.
Marshall led the Red Hawks with 27 points on a very efficient 10 of 14 shots while posting a team-high five assists.
Nguyen had herself a solid night, as she notched a double-double with 15 and 14 rebounds as she shot 6 of 9 from the floor.
"Honestly, I can't do this without my team," Nguyen said after the game.
"They were passing me the ball when I was open, and we were working as a team, honestly," Nguyen concluded as her team celebrated the win.
Simpson proved efficient, as they made 28 of 57 shots, for 49.1%. They were efficient from three, too, as they made 8 of 19 shots for over 42 percent on the night.
The Red Hawks improve to 4-2 on the season, as they will have a short break before traveling to Santa Clara on Dec 6.
