Red Hawks sweep the Eagles, pushes win streak to eight games

REDDING, Calif. - The women's volleyball team broke out the brooms tonight as they took the doubleheader against West Coast Baptist College to improve their season-best win streak to eight games.

The Red Hawks had a phenomenal game as they flexed their muscle from the get-go by winning the first set 25-5.

Tiara Manns had a big opening set as she posted six kills to go along with two aces, while the reigning CAC Attacker of the Week, Mariah Napoelon, posted four kills.

Abigail Shackelford and Elizabeth Heath chipped in with three kills each.

Simpson continued to roll as they took the second set convincingly, 25-4, to take the commanding 2-0 match lead as they rode extended rallies.

The Eagles drew first blood and held their first lead of the night before the Red Hawks went on an 8-1 run to take the 8-2 lead and never looked back as they took the third set 25-8.

Simpson had a dominant showing as they notched 45 kills as a team to go along with a .520 hitting percentage in game one of the night.

Kiersti Howell and Tiara Manns led the team with nine kills each while combining for an astounding .571 hitting percentage.

Brooke Sarahina led the team with 21 assists, while Elizabeth Heath led the defense with 14 digs.

After a quick turn around the Red Hawks and Eagles clashed for the second game of the night, with the Red Hawks taking the game in straight sets: 25-18, 25-20, and 25-9.

Simpson scored six straight points to begin the game, with Mackenzie Tataryn posting three aces.

But the Eagles chipped away and pulled within three points, 15-12. However, the Red Hawks never relinquished the lead as they took the first set 25-18 on a kill by Abigail Shackelford

Again, the Eagles played the Red Hawks strong in the second set as they mounted a late rally to pull within four, 24-20, before a kill by Caitlin Miller ended the second frame.

However, the Red Hawks finished off the third set in grand style as they jumped out to a 15-2 lead before closing out the match to secure the straight set victory.

Kiersti Howell led the Red Hawks in the second game with nine kills to go along with a .350 hitting percentage.

Tataryn played a key role as she posted a team-high 19 assists to go along with three aces and six digs.

Alexia Andaya led the defense with 11 digs as she moved into the libero spot.

With the win, Simpson has won eight straight games to improve its record to 9-13 as they creep closer to .500.

Simpson looks to stay hot and remain perfect in conference play as they take on Pacific Union College on Thursday at 8 pm in Angwin, CA.
