Miller wins maiden tournament at Corban’s Coastal Collegiate Invitational

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. - The Simpson University Red Hawks travelled to Salishan Links for Corban's Coastal Classic. Katelyn Miller won the individual girls' title in just her second start as a Red Hawk.

"The tournament was a ton of fun, and the course presented challenges in length, but I tried my best to stay in it the whole time," Miller said.

A first round where Miller was 8-over headed for the last hole, was derailed when a quadruple bogey eight made her sign for an 83 (+12).

During the second round, she had a stretch of five consecutive pars, eventually signing for an 82 (+11). Miller won the tournament, which included 22 girls, by three shots.

"I'm super grateful for the help of Coach Deaver, Trey (Assistant Coach), and the support of my teammates on my finishing holes, helping me get it done," Miller concluded.

The men's tournament, which consisted of 34 players, was won at 4-under par by Bellevue's Kai Lambro. Simpson's Ty Salvador finished in third place at 3-over. A late double bogey in his first round, along with an early triple bogey in his second, gave him a lot of work to do going into the final stretch.

"A solid week this week, I'm happy with how I played. I still didn't hit the ball amazingly, but mentally stayed in it from the first hole to the 36th," Salvador said.

"Things didn't pan out for me to win, but that's not what matters; it's what God has planned for me to learn and what it feels like to go and try and win a tournament. All in all, I'm happy with the week," Salvador concluded.

The next best Red Hawk was Jack Kramer, who finished with a 74 (+3), tarnished by two early double bogeys. A total score of +10 put Kramer in 8th place.

The third top ten for Simpson came from Seth Headrick, who shot a 73 (+2) in the first round to put him in contention. A second round of 82 (+11) left Headrick in 9th place.

After a strong event for the Red Hawks, they have just one more tournament left in the fall. They will travel to Lewiston, Idaho, for Lewis-Clark's Warrior Fall Invitational on October 19-21.
