IRVINE, Calif. - The women's volleyball team concluded its SoCal road trip tonight with a four-set victory over the Warriors to push its win streak to six games.
The Warriors jumped out to the early 7-1 lead before Simpson chipped away and took the 11-9 lead on a 10-2 run that included a pair of kills from
Tiara Manns and
Kiersti Howell.
A duo-block by
Kare Ann Oshiro and
Abigail Shackelford gave Simpson the 23-19 lead before the Warriors roared back with five straight points to take the late lead.
The first set went beyond the standard 25 points before Manns sealed the Red Hawks' first set 27-25 victory with back-to-back kills.
Simpson kept rolling as they jumped out to the 13-6 lead in the second set as
Mariah Napoleon posted three kills while Howell and Manns notched a pair of kills.
The Red Hawks extended its lead on five unanswered points to take the 20-12 lead before closing out the second set victory, 25-18.
But the Warriors fought back in the third set as Simpson held the comfortable 20-16 lead before Westcliff went on a 9-2 run to force a fourth set.
Simpson got on the board in the fourth set on a block by
Abigail Shackelford and Napoleon and extended its lead to 6-2 on kills by Manns and Heath.
However, the Warriors did not go quietly as they scored eight straight points to take the 10-6 lead.
With the score tied at 17, Simpson scored five unanswered points to take the commanding 22-17 lead with Manns leading the way with three kills.
This proved to be enough as Simpson closed out the fourth set 25-19 to take the match.
Manns and Napoleon had another big game as Manns posted 13 kills to go along with one block and six digs, while Napoleon notched a team-high 16 kills on a .350 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks and eight digs.
Setter
Brooke Sarahina had another solid game as she posted 40 assists to go along with 12 digs, while
Brooklyn Jimenez led the defense with 21 digs.
Simpson looks to stay hot as they return home to take on West Coast Baptist this Tuesday in a twin-bill starting at 6 pm.
