REDDING, Calif. - The women's volleyball team had quite the day as they hosted the Cal Pac Finale at home at the James M. Grant Center.
Before the games began, eight different Red Hawks collected Cal Pac awards, including Coach of the Year honors for
Mike Haworth and the Cal Pac Player of the Year,
Brooke Sarahina.
Sarahina earned 1st Team All-Conference honors along with
Tiara Manns and
Mariah Napoleon, while
Brooklyn Jimenez picked up an honorable mention nod.
Emilly Melo,
Kare Ann Oshiro,
Abigail Shackelford, and
Mackenzie Tataryn each earned a spot on the All-Academic Team while Tataryn took home the Champions of Character award as well.
Simpson continued its dominance in conference play as it rolled past the Warriors in a straight-set victory.
The Red Hawks dominated the first game of the night as they hit .391 as a team with an astounding .480 hitting percentage in the second set.
1st Team All-Conference selections Manns and Napoleon led the team with a combined 21 kills, along with nine digs.
Senior
Abigail Shackelford led the team with four aces as Simpson posted 10 aces compared to Westcliff's three.
Brooke Sarahina and Mackenize Tataryn combined for 33 assists at the setter spot while Jimenez led the defense with 11 digs.
Before the start of the second game, Simpson honored three players on senior night:
Rylee Bringgold,
Emilly Melo, and
Abigail Shackelford.
The Pioneers could not slow down the Red Hawks squad as they fell ill to the same fate as the Warriors, as the Red Hawks swept the Pioneers in straight sets.
Manns and Napoleon led the Simpson attackers as Napoleon posted a team-high 15 kills, with Manns following close behind with 10.
Sarahina notched another solid game as she recorded 28 assists while Melo led the defense with 17 digs.
With the win, Simpson stays clean in conference play as they improve their record to 8-0 as they climb back to .500 on the year.
They also celebrated their first-ever Cal Pac regular season title as they have clinched a playoff spot in the Continental Conference, as they conclude their regular season play tomorrow at 3 pm against the Warriors.
