ANGWIN, Calif. - The men's soccer team settled for a 2-2 draw against the Pioneers today.
The Red Hawks got on the scoreboard first in the 22nd minute as
Jonathen Garcia Virgen scored for the second consecutive game, as
Ariel Perez-Aviles accounted for the assist.
But Garcia Virgen completed the brace in the 35th minute as he drilled his second goal of the game to give Simpson the 2-0 lead.
Garcia Virgen looked to complete the hat trick, but the Pioneers' goalkeeper made a tremendous save on Garcia Virgen's penalty kick opportunity to keep the game at 2-0.
The Pioneers chipped away as they scored in the 56th minute to cut the Red Hawks' lead in half.
Simpson nearly closed out the 2-1 victory, but the Pioneers had other plans as they scored the equalizer in the waning minute of the game.
Goalkeeper
Jacopo Trolese earned the tie between the posts as he notched six saves.
Garcia Virgen led the Red Hawks with six shots and two goals to push his team's leading fifth goal of the year.
With the tie, Simpson remains in the fourth and final Cal Pac playoff spot as they hold a 0.5 game lead over Cal Maritime.
Simpson looks to be back in action on October 30th at noon at the California Soccer Park.
