ATHERTON, Calif. - The women's volleyball team saw its impressive 11-game win streak snapped tonight as they fell to Menlo College in four sets.
The Oaks jumped out to the early 6-4 lead before the Red Hawks went on an 8-1 run to take the 11-7 lead.Â
Mariah Napoleon anchored the run as she posted two kills and an ace.Â
Simpson held the 13-12 advantage before creating separation with a 6-1 run to take the 19-13 lead as they went on to take the 25-22 first set victory.
The Oaks jumped out to a 14-6 lead to begin the second set as the Red Hawks pulled within five on kills by
Kare Ann Oshiro and Napoleon.Â
However, the Oaks held off the Red Hawks' late rally to take the second set 25-19 to even the match score.Â
The Red Hawks looked to answer back in the third set as they took the early 6-3 lead before the Oaks strung together a 4-0 run on three separate occasions to take the 21-14 lead as they took the 25-17 third set victory.Â
Menlo looked to close out the game as they held the 10-4 lead to begin the fourth set before Simpson chipped away and tied the game at 12 on four kills by Napoleon.Â
Trailing by four, the Red Hawks tied the game at 17 on four unanswered points as
Tiara Manns powered the comeback with three kills.Â
With the score tied at 20, the Oaks scored three straight crucial points to take the 23-20 lead before closing out the fourth set 25-22 to take the match and hand the Red Hawks its first loss since August 30th against Embry-Riddle.Â
Napoleon and Manns led the team with double-digit performances as they combined for 27 kills, two aces, and six digs.Â
Brooke Sarahina posted a team-high 35 assists, 11 digs, and two aces.
Simpson looks to start a new win streak as they host the Cal Pac Jamboree starting October 30th at 5 pm against Pacific Union College.Â
