REDDING, Calif. - The women's soccer team cruised to an 11-0 victory over California Maritime to earn its fifth playoff berth in the past six years.
Simpson came out firing as they scored six times in the first 22 minutes of play.Â
Claire Brown notched the brace in the first ten minutes as she scored the game's first goal in the fourth minute with the help of
Chloe Tague and the second goal in the tenth minute on a corner kick by Tague.Â
Tague added two to her two assists with a goal in the 7th minute as
Litsy Munoz picked up the assist.Â
Alexa Baez and
Litsy Munoz each picked up their first goals of the season in the 12th and 20th minutes.Â
Iris Van Dalfesn picked up her first goal of the game in the 21st minute to give Simpson the commanding 6-0 lead.Â
The Keelhaulers got on the board in the 22nd minute as they chipped away at the Red Hawks' lead.Â
However, the Red Hawks added two more goals late in the first half as
Sophee McKenzie drilled her first goal of the season, followed by
Grace Nelson's first goal of the year in the 38th minute.Â
Dalfsen continued her tear as she claimed three of the Red Hawks' goals in the second half to earn the brace as she found the back of the net in the 57th, 67th, and 73rd minutes of play.Â
Simpson displayed true dominance as they outshot Cal Maritime 38-3, to go along with a 12-1 corner kick advantage.Â
Nadia Santiago earned her first win between the posts while seven different Red Hawks scored goals.
Dalfesn continues to torment the Keelhaulers as she has now recorded 11 goals over the past three games. Including a three-goal performance earlier this season and a brace in last year's contest.Â
With the win, Simpson locks up a playoff spot with three conference games remaining as they head to Angwin, CA, to take on Pacific Union College on Sunday.Â
