REDDING, Calif. - The men's basketball team took on La Sierra tonight to continue its three-game home stand.
Coming off a huge game against Nelson University,
Drey Ubas started the game scoring as he drilled a three-pointer followed by back-to-back three-pointers by
DaMari Tate and
Kellen Torrey.
But the Golden Eagles took the lead and never looked back as Simpson looked to regain the lead as
Trey Conrad drained a three-pointer to pull Simpson within three points midway through the first half.
A jumper by
Timothy Parker to close out the first half saw the Red Hawks trailing 38-30 as the Golden Eagles drilled a three at the buzzer.
Parker had a team-high eight points in the first half as he shot 3-5 from the floor.
Simpson looked to spark a second-half comeback as a huge dunk by
Jace Mills energized the James M. Grant Center to open the second half.
The Red Hawks chipped away as a jumper by
Kellen Torrey pulled Simpson within six points midway through the second half.
However, this proved to be the Red Hawk's last gasp as the Golden Eagles went on to outscore the Red Hawks 33-18 to take the 84-63 victory.
The final points of the night for Simpson came on a free throw by
Sean Rodriguez as he picked up his first collegiate points.
Parker finished with a team-high 18 points while
Trey Conrad had a solid game off the bench by posting 16 points to go along with six rebounds.
Simpson looks to finish its homestand strong as they take on Westcliff University on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
