Marshall and Thompson leads Red Hawks past the Keelhaulers

REDDING, Calif. - The women's team continued to stay hot as they took down the Keelhaulers 78-59 as they improved to 2-0 to begin conference play. 

Anna Marshall began her big night by converting on back-to-back free throws as Simpson drew first blood. 

Nikki Thompson, who also had a big night as well scored the next five points for Simpson as she drilled a three-pointer and a mid-range jumper to extend the Red Hawks lead to five. 

Simpson went on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter on buckets by Thompson, Tessa Kinney, and Haily Garcia to extend Simpson's largest lead of the game to 15 points. 

The Red Hawks continued to roll as they opened the second quarter on a 12-3 run to take the commanding 31-9 lead. 

Marshall had a huge second quarter as she notched a tera-high 10 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals. 

But the Keelhaulers did not go quietly as they came into the second half with the hopes of mounting a big second half come back. 

The Keelhaulers made things interesting as they outscored Simpson 17-9 in the third quarter to pull within 12 points heading into the fourth quarter. 

But Simpson ended the Keelahuler's comeback hopes as they scored six unanswered points to begin the fourth quarter to extend its lead to 18 points. 

Marshall drained a three as Zara Dumatol and Thompson converted on 3-4 from the line. 

The Red Hawks held off the Keelhaulers rally as they took the 78-59 victory as to stay undefeated in conference play. 

Marshall had a big game as she recorded a team-high 24 points and five steals to go along with seven rebounds. 

Thompson followed close behind as she posted 22 points to go along with nine rebounds. 

Kinney picked up a double-double as she picked up a team-high 14 rebounds and 10 points. 

With the win, Simpson shares the top spot in the Cal Pac standings with undefeated UC Merced. 

Simpson looks to have a pivotal matchup this week on Saturday at 2 pm as they take on UC Merced.
