PASADENA, Calif. - The women's volleyball squad continued its SoCal road trip today as they took on Cal Tech and Hope International today.
The Red Hawks looked to bounce back from last night's matchup with Life Pacific as they played D3 opponent Cal Tech this morning at 11 am.
Simpson and Cal Tech took part in a three-set thriller that saw the Red Hawks and Beavers exchange rally after rally.
Simpson took the early 1-0 match lead as they defeated the Beavers 25-19 thanks to a 14-3 run.
Brooklynn Wybenga had two straight kills as she slammed down the final kill of the first set.
The Red Hawks continued to stay hot as they took the second set 25-18 on an ace by
Abigail Shackelford to take the commanding 2-0 match lead.
Simpson looked to complete the straight-set victory as they drew first blood in set three on a kill by
Mariah Napoleon.
The Red Hawks closed out the third set on a 6-1 run thanks to a kill by
Mallory Swenson and an ace by
Abigail Shackelford to cap off the straight-set victory.
Mallory Swenson and
Mariah Napoleon combined for 17 kills on the game while
Katie Graham had a team-high four blocks and
Madison Kammuller had a team-high 11 digs.
The Red Hawks looked to sweep the day as they took on Hope International for its final game of the road trip.
The Royals came out firing as they jumped out to the early 3-0 lead. However, the Red Hawks went on a 5-0 run to take the 9-7 lead.
Simpson got strong play from everyone as
Mariah Napoleon recorded an ace and a kill while
Mallory Swenson picked up a kill and a block with
Dani Rydjord.
The Red Hawks never looked back as they took the first set 25-20 to grab the 1-0 match lead.
The Royals drew first blood in the second set before a kill by
Kare Ann Oshiro got Simpson on the board.
Simpson dominated the second set as they went on a 5-1 run to close out the second set victory 25-14.
Napoleon picked up a kill and an ace while
Abigail Shackelford notched one kill during the run.
The Red Hawks looked to close out the straight-set victory as Oshiro got Simpson on the board first with a kill to open the third set.
Simpson faced its largest deficit of the game as the Royals held an 11-6 lead.
However, the Red Hawks reclaimed the lead after going on an 8-2 run.
They had kills by
Dani Rydjord and
Brooklynn Wybenga and an ace by
Madison Kammuller.
Simpson did not relinquish the lead as they went on to win 25-22 to take the straight-set victory.
Mariah Napoleon had a team-high eight points while notching one ace, one block, and three digs.
Madison Kammuller had a solid game as she recorded a team-high 12 digs and two aces.
Abigail Shackelford had a huge game as she notched 16 assists, three aces, and six digs.
The Red Hawks had a stellar day as they did not drop a single set, on its way to a sweep of the day.
Simpson looks to stay hot as they take on West Coast Baptist this Friday in its home opener.
