REDDING, Calif. - The women's volleyball squad took on West Coast Baptist in a doubleheader tonight in its home opener at the James M. Grant Center.
The Red Hawks are coming off back-to-back wins against Cal Tech and Hope International.
Simpson continued to stay hot as they dispatched the Eagles in two straight-set victories to move its win streak to four.
The Red Hawks got on the board in the first set on back-to-back kills by
Katie Graham and
Kare Ann Oshiro.
Simpson took total control in the first set as they never relinquished the lead.
Three straight kills to end the first set by Graham,
Tiara Manns, and
Mariah Napoleon gave SU the convincing 25-11 victory.
Simpson kept the momentum rolling in set two as they took the commanding 13-3 lead as Napoleon and
Kiahla Granger each notched three kills.
The Red Hawks scored six unanswered points to close out the set two 25-9 victory with two kills by Granger and an ace by
Mackenzie Tataryn.
However, the Eagles did not go quietly as Simpson held a 10-9 lead midway through the third set.
But the Red Hawks exploded as they outscored the Eagles 15-5 to take the straight-set victory in game one.
Mariah Napoleon had a stellar game one as she had a team-high 11 kills to go along with a solid .381 hitting percentage.
Tiara Manns,
Katie Graham, and
Kiahla Granger had solid games as well by combining for 19 kills.
Madison Kammuller had a great game defensively as she notched 25 digs and five aces on the night.
The Red Hawks took a short break and came back in game two against the Eagles with the same intensity by convincingly taking the first set, 25-13.
Simpson grabbed the 14-5 lead and never looked back.
Abigail Shackelford notched three aces and
Kare Ann Oshiro picked up two kills during the span.
Back-to-back kills by
Kiahla Granger and
Rylee Bringgold closed out the Red Hawks' first-set victory.
A kill by
Lynette McKenzie got Simpson on the board in the second set.
Simpson took the commanding 21-14 lead late in the second set before four straight Eagle points pulled West Coast Baptist within three points. But the Red Hawks prevailed as two Eagles errors allowed Simpson to take the 25-21 set two victory.
The Eagles drew first blood in the third set before three straight kills by McKenzie gave Simpson the early lead.
However, West Coast Baptist did not go quietly as the Red Hawks and Eagles exchanged rallies in a closely played third set.
The third set went past the standard 25-point mark before two Eagles miscues allowed Simpson to claim the third set 26-24 and the straight-set victory.
Lynette McKenzie had a big game as she notched a team-high 11 kills to go along with seven digs in the second game.
Makayla Wheeler had a team-high 14 digs to go along with two aces on the game.
Simpson got strong play from the entire team as every player notched a stat to help complete the doubleheader sweep and push Simpson's win streak to four.
The Red Hawks look to keep the momentum rolling as they host the upcoming Cal Pac Jamboree Oct. 3rd-4th.
