Red Hawks Edge Beacons for First Win of the Season

EUGENE, Ore. - The women's soccer squad picked up its first win of the year against Cascade opponent Bushnell University today in a 1-0 victory.

The Red Hawks paced the first half of play as they outshot the Beacons 4-0 with a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks as well.

The closest opportunity in breaking the 0-0 ball game came off the foot of Denise Elias-Martinez in the 19th minute and Alyssa Trevino in the 41st minute.

However, the Beacons goalkeeper kept the game scoreless as she picked up two saves.

Simpson came close to scratching the first goal across in the 61st minute on a shot by Martinez that nearly found the back of the net as it hit the cross bar.

Goalie Kiah Gridley had her first opportunity of the game in the 76th minute as she picked up her first save of the day to keep the game scoreless.

The Red Hawks scored just seconds later as Chloe Tague drilled her second goal of the season to give Simpson the 1-0 late lead.

Gridley and the Red Hawks' defense prevailed and held onto the 1-0 shutout victory.

Chloe Tague picked up her second goal of the year in what proved to be the difference maker in this game for the game-winning goal in the 76th minute.

Kiah Gridley earned the clean sheet as she notched her first shutout and victory of the year in the post.

Simpson looks to stay hot as they head home to take on Park-Gilbert University this Friday at noon.
