IRVINE, Calif. - The women's soccer squad finished its SoCal road trip today as they took on Westcliff University in Irvine, CA.
They are coming off a come-from-behind victory against Providence Christian on Friday to move to 1-0 in conference play.
The Warriors drew first blood in the 14th minute as they took the early lead.
The Red Hawks and Warriors battled it out and played a highly competitive first half that saw both teams fire six shots each while Simpson goalkeeper
Kiah Gridley notched two saves.
But Simpson struck early in the second half as
Denise Elias-Martinez scored the equalizer in the 57th minute off a pass by
Chloe Tague.
This marked Martinez's second goal on the road trip as she scored the game-winner on Friday against Providence Christian.
However, Westcliff scored the difference maker in the 78th minute off a corner kick that found the back of the net to give the Warriors the 2-1 advantage.
Martinez took the final shot of the game in the final seconds but a save by the Warriors keeper prevailed in a 2-1 victory.
Simpson's attackers put up 14 shots on the day. Four by Martinez, three by
Kayla Arias-Lerma, and two by
Litsy Munoz and
Rachel Sequeira.
Kiah Gridley took the loss but registered six saves on the day.
The Red Hawks host its conference home opener at home this week on Sunday at 10 am against La Sierra.
