PALO CEDRO, Calif. - The Simpson University football team took on future Frontier Conference opponent Southern Oregon University tonight at the Bill Johnson Community Stadium in Palo Cedro, CA.
The Raiders flexed its muscle as they connected for a 56-yard pass play to begin the game. Shortly after the Raiders punched it in on a 3-yard run to take the early 7-0 lead following a successful PAT.
The Red Hawks looked to answer back on its first possession of the second quarter as quarterback
Kaleb Anderson ripped off a 60-yard run that put Simpson knocking on the door of the Raiders.
However, a big SOU defensive play forced a red zone turnover to keep Simpson off the board.
The Raiders offense seemed to fire on all cylinders as they scored on all seven of its possessions in the first half to take the commanding 49-0 lead.
Southern Oregon continued to stay hot on offense as they found the endzone on its first possession of the second half to extend its lead.
But the Red Hawk defense forced a Raider three-and-out after forcing an incomplete pass with tight coverage down the field on third down.
The Simpson offense fed off of the defensive stand as they marched down the field on a 12-play drive.
An explosive catch and run from Anderson to wide receiver Nathaniel Montecelli put the Red Hawks inside of the Raiders 30 before another big catch and run from running back
Ezekiel Anderson put Simpson in the red zone.
Shortly after, history was made as Anderson threw a dime as he found wideout
Talan Ramirez on a back corner fade route for a 15-yard touchdown pass.
This marked the first score and first touchdown in Simpson University history.
Quarterback
Kaleb Anderson had quite the night as had a team-high 87 yards to go along with 61 yards passing which included a touchdown pass.
Wide Receiver
Talan Ramirez had a team-high two catches for 25 yards which included the touchdown reception.
David Delgado had a team-high seven total tackles while
Andre Nice picked up two tackles and one sack on the night.
Simpson looks to be road warriors as they take on Carroll College this coming weekend at Nelson Stadium in Montana.
