Simpson Sweeps La Sierra and Moves into the #3 Seed

REDDING, Calif. - The girls came into the day needing a split to earn the #3 seed in the upcoming Cal Pac tournament behind sophomore pitcher Jessica Ulshoeffer

Both teams remained quiet in the first two innings of play as Ulshoeffer worked around a runners-on-the-corner situation to keep LSU off the board in the second inning.

Back-to-back singles by Adriana Delaney and Kayley Vaillette put early traffic aboard to begin the bottom of the third inning.

A La Sierra error on a Amy LeGrande sacrifice bunt allowed the first run of the game to score.

RBI singles by Nicolena Holen and Kimberlee Walston and back-to-back RBI doubles by Madyson Welch and Marissa Ramirez helped anchor the Red Hawk's six-run inning.

This proved to be more than enough for Ulshoeffer as she fired the five-inning complete-game shutout to earn her first win of the year.

After back-to-back batters reached in the bottom of the fifth inning an RBI single by Adriana Delaney put Simpson on mercy rule watch with the game-winning run on third base.

Center fielder Kayley Vaillette played hero as she laced a ringing single in the right center alley to plate the mercy rule run to end the game.

The Red Hawks were led by senior second baseman Marissa Ramirez who picked up a three-hit game.

Ulshoeffer picked up the win as she scattered five hits and struck out two Golden Eagle batters.

With the win, Simpson locked up the number three seed in the Cal Pac tournament.

Game 2:

The Red Hawks looked for the series sweep behind senior southpaw Kylee Potes

The Golden Eagles put traffic aboard as they loaded the bases in the first inning to begin the game. But Potes escaped the jam as she induced a flyout and a groundout to end the threat and keep it a 0-0 ballgame.

A two-out single by Nicolena Holen came around to score for the first run of the game on an LSU throwing error on a bloop single by Cailey Rizzardo

A lead-off single by Marissa Ramirez marked her fourth consecutive hit of the day. Followed by a bloop double by Adriana Delaney put runners on second and third.

Kayley Vaillette hit a deep sacrifice fly to left field to extend its lead.

Simpson kept it rolling as they plated two runs on three hits. A lead-off single by Jessica Heck came around to score on an RBI double to left center by Cailey Rizzardo followed by an RBI single by Madyson Welch

The Red Hawks put an exclamation in the bottom of the fifth inning as they plated four runs on five hits and two LSU errors.

A lead-off single by Holen came around to score on two LSU throwing errors to start the inning. Followed by back-to-back hits by Hollee Jamison and pinch hitter Hannah Hartsburg

Jillian Walker plated the sixth run of the game on a RBI groundout followed by a Lily Rojas double that plated Hartsburg.

Pitcher Katelyn Thomasson had the pinch hit game-ending walk-off mercy rule double to end the second game of the day.

Potes earned her second win in as many days as she fired four innings of shutout softball while striking out four batters.

Simpson pounded out 12 hits and were led by two-hit games by Holen and Rizzardo.

But the bench provided a boost as they combined for four hits and three runs scored.

With the sweep on the day, Simpson locked up the #3 seed in the upcoming Cal Pac tournament.
