IRVINE, Calif. - The boys concluded it's SoCal road trip today as they took on Westcliff University.
Westcliff has been one of the top teams in the nation as they currently received votes (RV) in the latest NAIA coaches poll.
The Warriors showed why they are one of the top teams in the country as they defeated Simpson in straight sets.
Westcliff started quickly as they held a 4-0 lead to begin the game until a kill by
Akira Davies put Simpson on the board.
The Red Hawks pulled within two after a kill by
Nathan Richards cut the 8-6 Warriors lead.
But six unanswered points by Westcliff allowed them to take a commanding 14-6 lead and win the first set in a convincing 25-15 fashion.
Simpson looked to bounce back in the second set as they grabbed the early lead on a kill by Davies to open the second set.
A dunk kill by
Jayden Minarcik made it a three-point game midway through the second set as Simpson trailed 11-14.
But the Warriors blanked Simpson to go on a 5-0 run to take a 19-11 lead that proved too much for the Red Hawks as they took the second set 25-18 to go up 2-0 in the match.
Simpson grabbed the early 4-3 lead early in the third set. Unfortunately, this marked the last lead of the game for Simpson as Westcliff regained the lead on a 3-0 run and never looked back.
The Warriors proved why they are one of the best teams in the Cal Pac this year as they remain a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
Nathan Richards led the Simpson hitters with nine kills on the game while
Jayden Minarcik picked up 22 assists on the night.
Simpson returns home this week to take on Pacific Union College on Friday at 3:30 PM.
