Simpson Drops Final Game of Road Trip to Embry-Riddle

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The women's basketball team dropped the final game of its road trip to Embry-Riddle, 71-53.

The Eagles grabbed an early 5-0 lead before Gabby Sebit put the Red Hawks on the board with a layup in the paint.

Embry-Riddle played a solid first quarter as they grew its largest lead of the game to 16 points.

But a Rachel Gafford bucket followed by a three-pointer by Rory Hetrick to close out the first quarter helped chip away from the Eagle's lead.

Katie Kushman drilled a three-pointer to open the second quarter as she pulled Simpson within eight points.

A mid-range jumper by Gafford mid-way through the second quarter pulled Simpson within four points.

However, the Eagles padded its lead back up to eight points for much of the quarter.

A jumper to end the half by Tessa Kinney pulled Simpson within six points while being down 28-34 going into the half.

Hetrick put the first points on the board for Simpson in the second half of play on a layup in the opening minute.

But, the third quarter belonged to the Eagles as they built their lead up to 18 points as they headed into the fourth quarter.

The Red Hawks fought and scratched to find themselves back into the game. However, the deficit proved to be too large as they fell 71-53.

Rory Hetrick had a team-high 13 points to go along with four rebounds.

Rachel Gafford followed close behind with 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.

Simpson will look to get back on track this Tuesday when they return home to take on UC Merced at 5:30 PM.
