REDDING, Calif. - The men's basketball squad hosted Lincoln University this afternoon in a non-conference game.
The men's squad is coming off a hard-fought loss against Southern Oregon earlier in the week.
Derek Gorden put through the first points of the night as he nailed a three-pointer to give Simpson the early lead.
Followed by back-to-back buckets by
Drey Ubas and
Mack Tarver Jr. to give Simpson the 7-0 lead.
The Red Hawks never relinquished the lead in the first half as they grew its largest lead midway through the first half on a jump shot by Tarver to give Simpson the 10-point lead, 35-25.
Ubas owned the final points of the half as he hit his first three-pointer of the game to make it a 45-35 game as Simpson headed into the half with a 45-37 lead.
Ubas had a team-high nine points in the first half followed close behind by Tarver and
Jace Mills with eight points.


But Lincoln did not go quietly as they grabbed its first lead of the game with just over 13 minutes left as they took the two-point advantage, 54-52.
Lincoln extended its largest lead of the game to five points with just under five minutes left of the game.
Trey Conrad drilled a huge three-pointer from the corner to cut into the Oaklander's lead.
Facing a three-point deficit, Gorden converted on a key layup to pull Simpson within one point with just under two minutes.
Lincoln looked to ice the game as they had a one-and-one free throw opportunity with just 16 seconds left.
But a missed free throw and a huge rebound by Mills gave Simpson a second life as Godren drove to the hoop and hit a mid-range floater to give Simpson the lead with four seconds left.
The Red Hawks prevailed and took the 77-76 victory behind Gorden's last-second bucket.
Drey Ubas had a team-high 16 points to go along with three steals and four assists.
Derek Gorden notched a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with nine points and the game-winning bucket.
Simpson looks to hit the road to take on Cal Poly Humboldt on Tuesday in an exhibition game.
