ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - The women's soccer season came to an end tonight as they fell to #1 seed, UC Merced in the semifinal game of the Cal Pac tournament in Aliso Viejo, CA.
The Red Hawks entered the tournament as the #4 seed as they finished the season with a 3-2-2 record in conference play as they qualified for the Cal Pac tournament.
The Bobcats drew first blood as they found the back of the net in the 26th minute to take the early lead.Â
UC Merced struck again right before the half as they added an insurance goal in the 43rd minute.Â
The Bobcat attackers created heavy pressure for the Simpson defenders as they kept goalkeeper
Kiah Gridley busy.Â
Gridley held her ground as she notched three saves in the first half off six shots and eight saves off 14 shots for the game.Â
Simpson looked to chip away in the second half as the first shot of the game came off the foot of 1st Team All-Conference selection
Denise Elias-Martinez.Â
But the Red Hawks could not overcome the deficit as the Bobcats took the 2-0 victory as they held Simpson to just two shots in the game.Â
With the loss, Simpson looks to begin the offseason as they finished the year going 5-7-3 with its fourth conference appearance in five years.Â
