Kinney posts double-double, Red Hawks fall to the Yotes

CALDWELL, Ida. - The women's basketball team took on the College of Idaho tonight in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center in Caldwell, ID. 

Anna Marshall put the first points of the night on the board for the Red Hawks on its third possession of the game. 

But the Red Hawks played catch-up as Lupe Lemus put the last points of the quarter on a couple of free throws. 

Zara Dumatol led the scoring in the first quarter as she notched five points while being perfect from the floor. 

Simpson pulled within five points midway through the second quarter as Dumatol drained a three-pointer and center Cerina Nguyen scored back-to-back buckets. 

However, the Yotes grew its lead to a game-high 16 points as they went into the half with a commanding 37-21 lead. 

Simpson had a solid third quarter as they outscored the Yotes 17-14 with Tessa Kinney owning the first and last points of the third quarter. 

Kinney exploded in the third quarter as she posted 14 points as she shot 6-7 from the floor. 

But the Yotes dominated the fourth quarter as they outscored Simpson 19-9 to take the 70-47 victory. 

Tessa Kinney had herself a night as she posted a double-double with a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 58% from the floor. 

Katie Cushman followed Kinney with nine points while notching four rebounds. 

Simpson looks to bounce back tomorrow as they take on Eastern Oregon University at noon (MST).
