REDDING, Calif. - The 2024 California Pacific Conference play opened today at the James M. Grant Center as Simpson hosted a six-game day that featured the North versus the South teams.
Simpson played the first game of the day as they opened up against La Sierra University.
Back-to-back kills by
Katie Graham gave Simpson its first lead of the day before a highly intense first set between the Golden Eagles and Red Hawks took place.
The Red Hawks trailed 18-15 before scoring four straight points on a kill by Mariah Napolean and an ace by Graham to take the 19-18 advantage.
The Golden Eagles gained a match-point advantage of 24-23 before a huge kill by
Mallory Swenson tied the game at 24.
The Red Hawks took set one on back-to-back hitting errors from the Golden Eagles to take the match lead.
But La Sierra answered back as they took set two as they went on a crucial 6-0 run with the game tied at 19 to take set two.
Simpson took the early set three lead as they grabbed the 8-4 lead on kills by Graham,
Kare Ann Oshiro,
Tiara Manns, and Tataryn Mackenzie.

The Red Hawks closed out set two on three straight points on kills by Oshiro, Graham, and Swenson.
Simpson kept the momentum rolling as they busted out for six straight points to take the commanding 6-0 lead.
Swenson closed it out as she slammed down the final kill of the game to give SU the 25-15 set four victory to take the match in four sets.
Mariah Napoleon had a team-high 13 kills while
Katie Graham and
Mallory Swenson combined for 22 kills.
Madison Kammuller had a solid game with a team-high 28 digs to go along with 11 assists.
Setter Tataryn Mackenzie notched a team-high 16 assists to go along with two aces and five digs.
Game 2:
The Red Hawks looked to sweep the day as they took on Westcliff University in the final game of the day.
The Warriors and Red Hawks played a thrilling first set as it went beyond the standard 25 points.
The Red Hawks grabbed the late 28-27 lead before
Dani Rydjord slammed down the biggest kill of the first set to give Simpson the match lead.
Simpson grabbed the commanding 8-1 lead on kills by Swenson, Graham, Manns, Graham, and
Brooklynn Wybenga.
The Red Hawks dominated the second set as they won 25-11 to take the 2-0 match lead.

Simpson closed it out in a big way in set three as they outscored the Warriors 7-1 to end the game.
Tiara Manns had a team-high 10 kills to go along with three digs.
Tatartyn Mackenzie had a huge game as she posted 23 assists and two aces to go along with seven digs.
The Red Hawks look to stay perfect in conference play as they wrap up the Cal Pac Jamboree tomorrow against Providence Christian at 5 pm.
