VALLEJO, Calif. - The Simpson University men's soccer squad got back in the win column tonight as they blanked Cal Maritime, 2-0.
The Red Hawks and Keelhaulers played a clean first half as the score remained 0-0.
Simpson outshot Maritime 7-1 in the first half but could not find the back of the net.
However, the Red Hawks broke through in the opening minutes of the second half as
Gio De La Torre scored the game's first goal on a pass from
Jesus Montoya.
The Simpson defense held the Keelhauler attackers at bay all game as they allowed six total shots on the day.
A goal by
Angelo Dominguez sealed the win for Simpson as he added a late insurance goal in the 80th minute.
Goalkeeper
Eric Canela picked up the win as he notched two saves.
With the win, Simpson is now in sole possession of fifth place as they trail Soka by one game for the fourth playoff spot.
Simpson looks to gain ground on Soka as they play them on Sunday at 12:30 pm.
