REDDING, Calif. - The women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight victory with a win over Pacific Union 62-53.

Simpson drew first blood on a highly contested layup by
Rachel Gafford that drew a foul. Gafford nailed the free throw to complete the three-point play to give Simpson the early lead.Â
However, the Pioneers reeled off seven straight points to go up 7-3. But the Red Hawks would reclaim the lead on a
Tessa Kinney layup.Â
A free throw by
Makenzee Moretto would close out the first quarter for the Red Hawks as they trailed PUC 14-12
Moretto converted on her second bucket of the night to open the second quarter's scoring to tie the game at 14.
Followed up by a Gafford layup in the paint gave Simpson the 16-14 advantage.Â
A layup by Kinney to close out the first half gave Simpson the one-point advantage as they headed into the half.Â
Itzel Torres got the second-half scoring started with a layup on a key rebound off Gaffor's missed three-pointer.Â
A low-scoring third quarter ended with a free throw by
Kayla Morgan to give Simpson the 43-39 lead as they headed into the fourth quarter.Â
Simpson would go on to dominate the final quarter they grew its lead to its largest of the night to 13 points after a three-ball by
Nikki Thompson.Â
Anna Marshall had a big night with a team-high 14 points to go along with four rebounds.Â
Following close behind was
Nikki Thompson with 13 points and
Rachel Gafford who had 11 points.Â
With the win, Simpson keeps pace with the top leaders as they hold sole possession of fourth place in the Cal Pac standings.Â
Simpson will hit the road to SoCal as they take on La Sierra this Thursday.Â
