REDDING, Calif. - The women's basketball team started the two-game home stand with a win over St. Katherine 54-34.
The Red Hawks drew first blood on a
Dyani Del Castillo three-pointer to begin the night's scoring.
Rory Hetrick would score the next four Red Hawk points with back-to-back free throws and a layup in the paint.
However, the Firebirds would go on a 9-2 run to edge Simpson 11-9 to end the first quarter of play.
But Simpson would flip the script in the second quarter as they outscored USK 11-2.
After an early bucket by the Firebirds, the Red Hawks would go on to score 11 unanswered points.
Anna Marshall would score her first points of the night with a layup in the paint followed by back-to-back buckets by Hetrick.
Riley Wallen,
Rachel Gafford, and
Nikki Thompson would join in on the scoring to close out Simpson's first-half lead 23-13.
Simpson would have a huge third quarter as
Rachel Gafford hit a mid-range jumper on the Red Hawk's first possession to open the second half.
The Red Hawks would grow its largest lead of the night to 28 points after a
Hannah Parsons three-pointer.
Simpson would hold onto its 25-point lead as they headed into the final quarter of play to seal the win, 54-34.
Rory Hetrick would have a huge game with a team-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds.
Dyani Del Castillo would follow close behind with 11 points as she hit a team-high three long balls from way downtown.
With the win, Simpson would stay 2 GB first-place leaders Ben U and UAV but they now hold sole possession of fourth place in the Cal Pac standings.
Simpson will continue its two-game home stand when they take on Westcliff University this Saturday at 5:30 PM.
