Simpson Sweeps West Coast Baptist

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's volleyball team continued to stay hot breaking out the brooms to sweep the Eagles in straight sets in both games this past Friday night.

The first game was an offensive onslaught that was highlighted by southpaw Brooklynn Wybenga who had a team-high eight kills to go along with a .462 hitting percentage in the match.

Kayla Somontan and Emily Hansen proved to be vital pieces of the Red Hawk's offense as they registered a combined 19 assists.

Simpson was in command recording a season-best .300 hitting percentage for the game.

Even with the loss of its freshmen due to opening weekend activities, Simpson did not miss a beat as they dominated the Eagles in the nightcap as they leaned on its upperclassmen.

Juniors, Dani Rydjord and Mallory Swenson led the way as they recorded a combined 19 kills with a .467 hitting percentage.

Somontan had another solid game as she recorded 16 assists to up her total on the day to 26.

Junior Katie Graham had a quality afternoon of her own as she totaled 11 kills with a .354 hitting percentage top along with one solo block on the day.

Simpson got positive contributions from everyone as they displayed the quality of its depth as they'll ride into conference play with everyone getting hot at the right time.

The Red Hawks will look to carry its 3-game winning streak into its conference opener this week against Westcliff University on Thursday at 7 PM at home.
