REDDING, Calif. - A Saturday night matchup with Pacific Union College ended with the Red Hawks coming out on top in four sets.
The Red Hawks came out of the gates slow as Pacific Union took an early 9-0 lead.
Simpson showed grit as they battled back and tied the game late but ultimately fell 25-23.
However, they took the momentum into set two as they dispatched the Pioneers 25-17.
The Red Hawks did not look back as they routed the Pioneers in set four by the score of 25-14.
But the Pioneers would not go down quietly as they battled back in the fourth set.
A back-and-forth match set up a wild fourth set. A few key Red Hawk rallies helped them seal the deal 25-20 to close out the game.
Freshman
Tiara Manns had a big game as she had a team-high 13 kills.
Following close behind was
Tiana Nihipali with 12 kills and
Mallory Swenson with 11 kills on the night.
Junior middle
Julia Zamfir had another big night in the net as she recorded a team-high seven total blocks to go along with eight kills.
Madison Kammuller led the team with 19 digs and Kayala Somontan had another solid night with 44 assists.
The Red Hawks picked up a key victory as they hope to gain momentum as they head to Arizona to take on Park-Gilbert University this Thursday at 6 PM.
