PASADENA, Calif. - A hot Simpson women's volleyball team came up short against Cal Pac rival Providence Christian College. 

The Sea Beggars put the first blemish on the Red Hawks 2023 conference record as they dropped it's first conference game of the year, 3-1. 

The Red Hawks looked to stay hot in the first set as they narrowly edged the Sea Beggars 25-23. Thanks to a late 5-0 Simpson run helped power them to a first-set victory. 

The second set followed much of the same dramatics but fell in favor of the Sea Beggars as they returned the favor to take the set by the score of 25-23. 

As a result of dropping the fourth set, the Red Hawks faced a 2-1 deficit. 

The final set looked promising as Simpson held a five-point lead late, but a 10-0 Sea Beggar run sealed the deal as they closed out the fourth and final set. 

Junior Mallory Swenson led the way as she recorded a team-high 13 kills to go along with 12 digs. 

Following close behind was Tiana Nihipali who registered 12 kills and 10 digs on the night. 

Senior setter Kayla Somontan had another solid game as she recorded 29 assists to go along with two service aces and 17 digs. 

The Red Hawks will look to start a new win streak tomorrow as they take on Occidental College at 6 PM.
