Simpson Takes Down Jessup for First Win

ROCKLIN, Calif. - Simpson University men's soccer team picked up their first win of the year against GSAC rival William Jessup University, 2-1.

A quiet first half between the two teams set the stage for a thrilling second half. The Red Hawks and Warriors were unable to find much success as both teams were unable to find back of the net for the first 45 minutes. The Warriors outshot the Red Hawks, 13-9 and 5-2 in the first half.

However, Goalkeeper Daniel Morales recorded the win and five saves on the day to allow the potent Warrior attackers to just one goal.

Simpson found the first goal of the day in the 71st minute when Christian Meza split two Jessup defenders then fired a sliding shot to beat the Warriors goalkeeper.

But, the Warriors responded with a goal of there own in the 78th minute after a costly yellow card resulted in a penalty shot.

With less than five minutes left, Jaime Guteirrez Velasco hit the game winner on a shallow cross that he put away in the top corner of the net. The Red Hawks were able to shut the door and escape Rocklin with a massive victory over the 3-1 Warriors team.

The Red Hawks right now are scheduled to hit the road this Friday and take on Cascade Conference opponent Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, OR at 2 PM.
