Box Score 3 ATHERTON, Calif. - The Simpson University Women's Volleyball team picked up its first win of the year at the Menlo Invitational. After a shaky first day, the Red Hawks bounced back and came out firing on day two as they defeated Warner Pacific 3-1.
Simpson dropped the first match of the tournament against nationally ranked Southern Oregon University (20). Simpson played a close contest in sets one and two as they battled back and forth. Set one was highly contested as the Red Hawks held the lead on two separate occasions. However, a six-o SOU run doomed the Red Hawks in the later half of the set. Set two followed much of the same path with back-and-forth scoring. However, the high-powered SOU offense proved to be fatal.
Junior outside hitter
Mallory Swenson led the Red Hawks with nine kills in the match to go along with three blocks.
Tiana Nihipali followed close behind by registering six kills and five digs.
The second match of the day was against the host team Menlo College. The Red Hawks played a competitive first set as they led on two separate occasions but dropped the set.
Senior
Kayla Somontan led the team with 12 assists as she distributed the ball around.
Madison Kammuller played a key role in the back role as she led the team with 17 digs.
The Red Hawks bounced back on day two of the tournament when they defeated Warner Pacific University, 3-1. Simpson drew first blood by taking the first set by the score 25-20 in a back-and-forth contest. After dropping the second set, 21-25 the Red Hawks closed the door in sets three and four by the scores of 25-10.

Katie Graham had big games by recording a combined 30 kills out of the team's 43.
Kayla Somontan had a monster game as she registered 27 assists and six digs. Newcomer
Madison Kammuller had a big game as she recorded 31 digs and one ace.
The Red Hawks will host its season opener next week for a doubleheader against West Coast Baptist at University Preparatory Academy at 4 and 6 P.M.
