Red Hawks Jump Back into Playoff Spot After Series Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Red Hawks took three out of four from the Golden Eagles to move into fifth-place and the final playoff spot in the Cal Pac standings with eight conference games remaining.

Simpson got the game going strong by sweeping the day series on Thursday with wins of 5-4 and 16-0. Although the Red Hawks dropped the third game on Friday 8-3, they responded strongly with a finale win of 6-5.

Game one of the series proved to be a thriller as the Red Hawks came out on top in eight innings 5-4. Combined with a quality pitching performance by starter Jessica Ulshoeffer and Isabella Contreras who allowed four runs off six hits. The bats were led by freshman, left fielder Nicolena Holen who had four hits and scored two runs followed by second baseman, Marissa Ramirez who collected two hits and a stolen base.

Simpson continued its success in Riverside as the offense exploded for a season-high 16 runs off 13 hits to end the 16-0 contest in five innings. Junior southpaw, Kylee Potes had a stellar performance on the mound as she went five innings while punching out eight Golden Eagles and allowing only two hits. The bats were led by freshman, designated player, Jayden Bayani who collected three hits followed by senior, catcher Chloe Garcia who collected two extra-base hits which included a home run and a double while driving in four runs.

After a stellar day one, the Golden Eagles bounced back by taking game three by a score of 8-3. The Golden Eagles were able to get to the pitching tandem of Jessica Ulshoeffer and Isabella Conteras,  who allowed eight runs off 10 hits. Freshman, Nicolena Holen had another great game as she collected three hits while driving in two runs followed by Kassanda Soria who had two hits including a double.

The Red Hawks bounced back in the series finale by taking game four by a score of 6-5. Kylee Potes picked up her second win of the road trip as she went seven strong innings while allowing five runs and punching out seven La Sierra batters. The bats were led once again by Nicolena Holen who collected three hits followed by two-hit performances by Isabella Munoz and Kassandra Soria.

The Red Hawks face a pivotal series this upcoming weekend as they take on 6th place St. Katherine Firebirds in San Marcos, California.
