REDDING, Calif. - The women's basketball team defeated La Sierra 70-55 as they picked up its first conference win of the season.

The Red Hawks drew first blood on two free throws converted by
Rachel Gafford.
Junior guard,
Rory Hetrick, had a big first quarter as she registered a team-high nine points and three rebounds.
Simpson would go on to dominate the first quarter by outscoring the Golden Eagles 22-8.
The Red Hawks would capitalize off the LSU turnovers as they posted nine points off turnovers, compared to LSU's one.
Nikki Thompson continued the hot streak as she drained a three-pointer to open the second period of play.
Simpson would create major separation in the second period as they found themselves up 23 points on a Hannah Parson's free throw.
Gafford would have a perfect second period as she shot 3-3 from the floor for a total of seven points with three assists.
Simpson showed solid all-around play as they held a commanding 45-26 lead heading into the half.
Hetrick would continue to stay hot as she buried a three-pointer to open Simpson's scoring in the second half.
Hetrick and
Celina Tress would shoot a combined four of six from the floor for 10 points in the third period.Â
The Red Hawks would head into the final period of play up 58-36 in hopes of closing out their first conference win.
Riley Wallen had a productive night off the bench in the fourth period as she had a team-high five points.
Tress would cap off the 70-55 victory on a lay-up in the paint late in the final period.Â
Hetrick would finish with a stellar night as she had a team-high 19 points, five steals, and nine rebounds while shooting 5-10 from the floor and 4-6 from beyond the arc.
Gafford had quite the night with a team-high seven assists to go along with 13 points while shooting 4-5 from the floor.
Tress would round out Simpson's top scorers with 11 points and five rebounds on the night.
Simpson will look to carry its momentum as they hit the road this Wednesday to take on Pacific Union College at 5:30 pm.
